India’s latest golfing star, Anirban Lahiri shot to global attention with a superb year in 2015 and is now establishing himself on the PGA Tour in the United States.

Born in Pune, Anirban took up the sport up as an eight-year-old and turned professional as a 20-year-old in 2007 after being crowned national champion on two occasions as an amateur. Anirban has gone on to win 18 professional titles, including two European Tour tournaments in the space of two weeks in 2015.

After five wins on the Asian Tour, starting with the Panasonic Open in 2011, Anirban secured a European Tour card through Qualifying School in 2014. Within weeks he was a two-time champion, with a stunning 10-under-par third round of 62 helping him to take the Maybank Malaysian Open title in February.

Then, just two weeks later, he delighted his home fans by beating fellow Indian SSP Chawrasia in a play-off to emerge victorious at the Hero Indian Open. His superb year continued when he became the first Indian to finish in the top five at a major, taking a share of fifth spot at the 2015 US PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in August.

He will now concentrate on golf in the United States after taking up a PGA Tour card for 2016.

Anirban resides in Bangalore in India with his wife Ipsa and enjoys computer games and music in his spare time.
